Judge: homeschooled should suffer same inadequacies as others
From the Philadelphia Bulletin...
If New Jersey is to protect children from the harms of home schooling, [Essex County superior court Judge Tom] Zampino argued that each home school student must be registered with the local school district, a curriculum must be presented and filed with the local board of education, the parent must watch a four hour training video, and home school students must take the same standardized tests as the public school students.
In the end, Zambino's opinion was all bark and no bite, as he passed the buck and told the parties to rectify the situation by following New Jersey's truancy laws. This, however, marks the beginning of what could be an ugly fight in Jersey.
We've certainly been having an epidemic of judges making asses of themselves lately. Must be something in the water.
